_____

Hello, Emerging Entrepreneur (0 to 5 years).

I am Dr Kimberly Douglass. I will be your guide for session. This is an important use of your time to start the year off right.

If you feel stuck in defining your business and/or your processes, that means the guidance and feedback you have received (or not received) so far have not enabled you to make even the basic decisions you need to make. Even if you can do a lot of stuff (busy yourself inside your business), you CANNOT move forward in ways that feel right and feel strategic. This is tiresome and isolating. Let's not continue existing this way in 2026.

Let's work with what you already have. You can do this - with the right support.

Maybe you may have been told you are overthinking, or you may believe you are overthinking. Okay then. Let's gently channel your thinking with an activity that is both mentally and physically stimulating.

Let's sit down and map your thoughts with intention. We can map out your org chart, one of your processes (e.g., product or service development) or the mental framework for your business.

This is a work session. Come prepared to sketch your ideas and receive guidance and feedback. To be clear, we are not just drawing pictures. This is not vision boarding, although these activities will support your vision. We are thinking deeply and strategically about your actions, resources and relationships. We are producing a tool that will guide your thinking and your actions in your business. It will help you during the session and years from now.

This is real-time guidance and instruction on how to think about what you are doing. This process involves both deconstruction and reconstruction of the ideas you hold about how your business is organized, how a particular process works or about the mental model guiding your decision-making.

I am an experienced teacher of adult learners, with over 20 years of experience in higher education. I understand how adults learn and develop skills, and I know there are things you need to learn to perform well in your businesss. There are skills you need to develop to be a decision maker inside your business. For a sustainable operation, it is not enough to have audacity and charisma. You need capability and capacity to strategize, plan, organize, implement, fulfil, follow up and more.

The guidance and feedback you receive will be based on the way you learn. This support will help you become more strategic and decisive. This support will even help you understand what other supports you need.

In addition to being a professor, I am also an experienced systems designer and coordinator, user-experience professional, policy analyst, peer-reviewed researcher and administrator. I am skilled at stakeholder mapping, organizational mapping, idea mapping, concept mapping, process mapping and more. Based on these experiences, I will deliver the deep, but clear, learning you need.

The learning objectives for this session will set you up to walk away with measurable outcomes.

Learning Objectives (activity)

*You will identify the core features (roles, steps, thoughts) of your map.

*You will identify how the core features relate to each other.

*You will sketch (on paper or digitally) these features together in a single picture.

Learning Outcomes (demonstration of skill, you will be able to.... )

*You will be able to sketch one document that includes the key features of your organization, the key features of a particular process or the key features of the concept that explains your work.

*You will be able to give a 5 to 10-minute talk about the meaning and value of the map you create.

*You will be able to give a 5 to 10-minute talk about how to use mapping to develop strategy, processes, ideas, etc.

*You will be able to make at least one critical decision based on what you place on your map.

I look forward to working with you to make sure the time and other resources you spend on your business are focused in the right direction. If you are ready to learn, I am ready to teach you how to empower yourself through mapping.

Kind regards,

Dr Kimberly/Kimberly/Dr Douglass

What to Bring

*Paper, digital pad and/or laptop

*We will not use mapping software for this session. That will slow down the discussion. You can enter your map into mapping software later, on your own. This session is designed to get you thinking about the placement of map features based on your business or product/service strategy and strategic relationships. I will guide you on the thinking behind the placements.

Final Thoughts

You will be able to take what you learn in this session wherever you go and apply it to whatever you do. Welcome thinkers, strategists and imagineers.
