Workload

  • The textbook includes a list of references to consider during the course and in the future.
  • All required reading is from the textbook.
  • Most of the activity will be hands-on learning: short exercises to engage you in the conversation about decolonizing neurodivergence.
  • You enter the course with a particular policy, program, practice, media, etc. in mind. You will use this item as a filter for the knowledge and skills you gain through this course.
  • This course considers the particular learning needs of Neurodivergent People.

This course is for anyone who may be working with neurodivergent people (ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, bipolar disorder and others): clergy, healthcare professionals, social workers, law enforcement, government officials and others.

Learning Outcomes (you will be able to: )

  • identify core assumptions of colonized thinking
  • recognize your own resistance to real connection with Neurodivergent People
  • listen to and validate lived experiences of Neurodivergent people
  • review and remove policies, practices and programs driven by colonized thinking
  • consider replacement policies, practices and programs informed by decolonizing beliefs and ideas
